Terms to avoid on your interview:
Due to our commitment to compliance in our industry, please avoid the following terms.
- Avoid mentioning specific financial/insurance companies or products.
- Instead, discuss how some companies offer solutions that can help with Problem X.
- Avoid mentioning Dave Ramsey, Suze Orman, or other similar people by name.
- Instead, you may mention unlicensed TV financial gurus.
- Avoid promissory language, e.g. something is ‘guaranteed’ or ‘can help.’
- Instead, please say something may work for you or may be able to help.
- Avoid using the terms ‘advisor, securities-licensed, or expert.’
- Instead, please use professional or specialist.
- Avoid using the term ‘annuity.’
- Instead, please call it a predictable income stream.
- Avoid making blanket recommendations or specific investments like precious metals or crypto-currencies.
- Instead, say X may help some people and encourage listeners to consult their financial professional for suitable investments for their situation and goals.
Helpful reminders for your interview:
- At the time of the interview, please log into the online video meeting. The link should be in your calendar event for the interview.
- Please be in a quiet room and beware of background noise, shuffling papers, and anything else your mic may pick up and be distracting for listeners.
- If you mention statistics, please include the exact source, publication and year. If you aren’t able to note the source, please know that it will have to be edited out of your final interview.
- If you mention any of our ‘terms to avoid’ and catch yourself, simply restate your point with an acceptable term.
- If you stumble, wish to restate your thought, or mention any of the ‘terms to avoid,’ no problem! This is pre-recorded, so you can restate your thought and we will be able to edit accordingly.
